After being introduced to your tour guide, we travel overnight with a modern executive coach with reclining seats and WC facilities. We make two stops along the way to refresh ourselves and have an early breakfast (approx 6AM).
We start our day by dropping the luggage in a secure room at the hostel and returning to the coach for a tour of the main attractions such as Calton Hill, Holyrood House, King Arthurs Seat, Royal Mile, Grass Market and Princes Street. We learn about the fascinating history of Edinburgh and orientate ourselves around this city. You will then have the rest of the afternoon at your leisure and return to the hostel when you wish. In the evening the guide will offer a nightlife tour showing some of the best bars, traditional and modern, to sample the local whiskeys. Alternatively join the guide to visit a scary graveyard and hear some scary stories!
After breakfast join the guide for a full day in the Scottish Highlands. On our way up we first stop at the Forth Bridges - made famous by their size and their age! Onward to Stirling castle and the Wallace monument we learn about Scotland's national hero, William Wallace aka 'Braveheart' and how the battle of Stirling Bridge led to a victory for the Scottish rebellion. In the afternoon we drive through the Trossachs National park visiting Loch Katrine, Loch Lomond, the Dukes pass and much more. We return to Edinburgh in the evening where you will have free time to relax or enjoy another night out in town. If you do not wish to join us on the Highland tour you can remain in Edinburgh at your leisure.
After breakfast, we say goodbye to Edinburgh. On route to York, we stop for an hour at Jedburgh - Woollen Mill - a discounted shop to buy all sorts of Scottish souvenirs including whisky, tartan scarves and shortbread boxes. We arrive in York in the mid-afternoon and start our walking tour visiting the famous York minster, the Shambles and other interesting areas of this old city. We depart York in the early evening and continue our drive south arriving back in the late evening
